Tyler The Creator, 'Yonkers' (2011, W. Haley)

This video (a nominee for VMA music video of the year 2011) creates a new dimension of music video, offering a very simple yet very effective style of video. The black and white effect mixes well with the random focuses. The video is made to have no cuts, and therefore no cutting rate, this works well with the song as it matches the very constant beat and tone of the song. Some features from this video could be fairly easy to copy as it can be quite cheaply done. However as the shots are very long, we would need to find a way to split it up, therefore making the 'lip sinking' easier.

Dr Syntax, 'Subcultures' (2006)

Subcultures by Dr Syntax is from the rap genre and can be compared to 'The Streets'. Subcultures has a very constant beat throughout the song, this enables the lyrics to create a narrative about how the artist (Dr Syntax) tries to 'fit in' with different types of people, for example 'football hooligans' and 'hippies'. I feel that we could create a narrative based video to follow the lyrics, centering the artist and following his story, introducing new characters and showing how he can not 'fit in'. However to do this we would need a lot of actors to represent different types of people, also we would need different locations and props, again representing the different people. For example, to represent the 'football hooligans' we would need to show a football match or something similar.
